Girl Scout Peach Ice Cream
The first time I made ice cream was at Girl Scout day camp during the summer before third grade. This was the recipe that we used. We also made the same recipe substituting Oreo cookies for the fruit. Years later, I still prefer the peach version with the addition of fresh mint.
2 cans sweetened condensed milk
6 cups whole milk
2 T vanilla
2 T fresh mint, minced
2 cups peaches, diced*
1/4 cup sugar
Combine the peaches and sugar. Set aside to macerate.
Whisk together the first four ingredients and add to the freezer cartridge. Freeze according to your ice cream maker’s instructions. When almost set, add the peaches and process for another 5 minutes or so.
*We always bring back fresh Red Haven peaches from Bergman’s Orchard in Marblehead, Ohio.
